Mommy Makeover in Turkey, Antalya

Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding can produce lasting changes in the abdomen, breasts and body contours.

Some women experience loose abdominal skin and separation of the abdominal muscles. Others notice breast descent, loss of breast fullness or persistent fatty deposits around the waist.

These changes do not always improve with exercise or weight reduction.

However, not every woman requires the same combination of procedures.

I am Dr Gökhan Özerdem, Specialist in Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Antalya, Turkey.

With more than 25 years of surgical experience, I assess women considering a mommy makeover in Turkey, focusing on the specific anatomical changes that have occurred after pregnancy.

Depending on the patient’s needs, surgery may involve a tummy tuck, breast lift, breast augmentation, breast reduction, liposuction or selected additional procedures.

Some operations can be combined safely in appropriate patients. Others are better performed in separate stages.

A mommy makeover is not a fixed package of operations. It is a surgical approach that requires careful assessment of the abdomen, breasts, overall health and recovery requirements.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a term used to describe a combination of aesthetic surgical procedures intended to address physical changes associated with pregnancy and childbirth.

The most commonly treated areas are the abdomen and breasts.

However, the combination varies.

A mommy makeover may include:

Not every patient needs all these operations.

For example, one woman may require abdominal skin removal and a breast lift.

Another may benefit from a tummy tuck and limited liposuction without breast surgery.

The appropriate plan depends on anatomy, medical considerations and expectations.

Breast Augmentation in Turkey, Antalya

Why Does the Body Change After Pregnancy?

During pregnancy, the body adapts to support the developing baby.

The abdominal skin stretches as the uterus enlarges.

The connective tissue between the rectus abdominal muscles may widen.

Breast volume and skin tension change during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Fat distribution may also change.

After childbirth, some tissues recover considerably.

Others may not return to their previous condition.

The extent of these changes depends on:

  • Genetics
  • Number of pregnancies
  • Age
  • Skin elasticity
  • Weight changes
  • Breast size
  • Previous body proportions
  • Individual healing

These changes are normal physiological consequences of pregnancy.

Surgery is an elective option for women who wish to address specific persistent concerns.

When Should You Consider a Mommy Makeover?

Timing is important.

I generally recommend waiting until the body has recovered from pregnancy and childbirth.

Patients should ideally have:

  • Completed their immediate postpartum recovery
  • Reached a relatively stable weight
  • Finished breastfeeding and allowed breast size to stabilise
  • Recovered adequately from any Caesarean section
  • Suitable general health
  • Realistic expectations
  • Sufficient support at home during recovery

There is no single waiting period appropriate for every woman.

The timing depends on the planned operations and the patient’s physical condition.

A mommy makeover should not be scheduled simply because a particular number of months has passed after childbirth.

My Approach to Mommy Makeover Surgery

During consultation, I assess the abdomen and breasts separately before considering whether procedures should be combined.

I examine:

  • Abdominal skin excess
  • Rectus diastasis
  • Abdominal wall contour
  • Previous Caesarean scars
  • Subcutaneous fat distribution
  • Breast volume
  • Breast descent
  • Nipple position
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Skin elasticity
  • Weight stability
  • Previous operations
  • General health

I also ask whether the patient plans further pregnancies.

The surgical plan should address the changes that are actually present rather than follow a standard combination advertised as a mommy makeover package.

Tummy Tuck After Pregnancy

Abdominoplasty is one of the most frequently considered procedures following pregnancy.

Some women develop loose abdominal skin that remains despite returning to their previous weight.

Others have a persistent lower abdominal fold or separation of the abdominal wall.

A tummy tuck can remove excess skin and improve abdominal contour.

When indicated, it can also include repair of rectus diastasis.

However, a tummy tuck is not a weight-loss operation.

It does not remove visceral fat or guarantee a completely flat abdomen in every patient.

Rectus Diastasis After Pregnancy

Rectus diastasis refers to widening of the connective tissue between the two rectus abdominis muscles.

It commonly develops during pregnancy.

Some degree of separation may improve after childbirth.

However, significant separation can persist.

Patients may notice abdominal protrusion even when their weight is relatively low.

During abdominoplasty, the stretched abdominal wall fascia can be tightened through plication when appropriate.

This is different from treating excess abdominal fat.

I assess the abdominal wall carefully because skin removal alone may not address the main cause of abdominal protrusion.

Is Rectus Diastasis the Same as a Hernia?

No.

Rectus diastasis involves widening of the connective tissue between the abdominal muscles.

A hernia involves a defect through which tissue may protrude.

Both conditions can occur together.

If I suspect an abdominal wall hernia, additional assessment may be necessary.

The presence of a hernia can influence the surgical plan.

Mini Tummy Tuck or Full Tummy Tuck After Pregnancy?

A mini tummy tuck may be suitable when skin excess is limited to the area below the belly button.

However, pregnancy frequently affects both the upper and lower abdomen.

When there is substantial upper abdominal laxity or significant rectus diastasis, a full tummy tuck may be more appropriate.

I do not recommend mini abdominoplasty solely because the patient wants a shorter scar.

The operation must correct the actual anatomical problem.

What Happens to the Belly Button During a Tummy Tuck?

During a standard full tummy tuck, the patient’s natural belly button remains attached to the abdominal wall.

After the abdominal skin is repositioned, the original umbilicus is brought through a new opening in the skin.

This allows removal of excess abdominal skin while preserving the natural umbilical attachment.

A scar around the belly button is usually necessary.

The exact appearance depends on anatomy and healing.

Can a Tummy Tuck Improve a Caesarean Scar?

In selected patients, an existing Caesarean section scar can be incorporated into the lower abdominal incision.

This may allow the previous scar to be removed with the excess skin.

However, the result depends on the position and quality of the scar.

Some scars cannot be completely removed.

I examine the previous incision before planning surgery.

Breast Changes After Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect breast volume, skin elasticity and nipple position.

Some women develop:

  • Breast descent
  • Loss of upper breast fullness
  • Loose breast skin
  • Reduced breast volume
  • Persistent breast enlargement
  • Breast asymmetry

These changes require different operations.

Breast augmentation, breast lift and breast reduction are not interchangeable procedures.

The correct choice depends on the relationship between breast volume and skin excess.

Breast Lift After Pregnancy

A breast lift, or mastopexy, reshapes the breasts and repositions the nipple-areola complex when appropriate.

It is commonly considered when breast descent is the main concern.

The operation removes excess skin and reshapes the existing breast tissue.

A breast lift does not necessarily require an implant.

If sufficient breast volume remains, mastopexy alone may provide an appropriate improvement.

However, a lift cannot guarantee the same upper breast fullness as augmentation.

Breast Augmentation After Pregnancy

Some women lose breast volume following pregnancy or breastfeeding.

If the breasts have relatively good skin support but insufficient volume, breast augmentation may be considered.

In my practice, I commonly use modern silicone breast implants, often placed in a submuscular or dual-plane position when appropriate.

The implant size and position depend on breast anatomy, tissue thickness and the desired result.

I prefer to avoid unnecessarily large implants that exceed the capacity of the patient’s tissues.

Implants can increase breast volume, but they do not reliably correct significant breast descent on their own.

Breast Lift with Implants

Some women have both reduced breast volume and significant breast descent.

In selected patients, a breast lift can be combined with augmentation.

However, the combination introduces additional considerations.

The surgeon must balance:

  • Implant volume
  • Skin tension
  • Nipple position
  • Tissue quality
  • Scar pattern
  • Healing
  • Long-term breast support

In some cases, performing the lift and augmentation in separate stages may be more appropriate.

I discuss these options according to the patient’s anatomy.

Breast Reduction After Pregnancy

Not every woman experiences a reduction in breast size after pregnancy.

Some develop persistent breast enlargement accompanied by discomfort or breast descent.

In these patients, breast reduction may be appropriate.

The operation removes selected breast tissue and skin while reshaping the remaining breast.

It can also reposition the nipple-areola complex when necessary.

Breast reduction may be considered as part of a mommy makeover when breast size, rather than loss of volume, is the main concern.

Mommy Makeover Before and After

Post-Pregnancy Body Contouring Results

[MOMMY MAKEOVER BEFORE & AFTER GALLERY]

Before and after photographs may demonstrate changes in:

  • Abdominal skin excess
  • Waist contour
  • Rectus diastasis-related abdominal shape
  • Breast position
  • Breast volume
  • Overall body proportions

However, results depend on anatomy, skin quality and the procedures performed.

Photographs should be viewed as examples of individual outcomes rather than guarantees.

Can Liposuction Be Part of a Mommy Makeover?

Yes.

Some women retain localised fat deposits around the waist, flanks, hips or other areas after pregnancy.

Liposuction may improve these areas when skin elasticity is adequate.

However, liposuction cannot reliably correct significant loose skin or rectus diastasis.

In selected patients, carefully planned liposuction can be combined with abdominoplasty.

I assess the amount and location of fat removal with attention to tissue circulation and surgical safety.

Mommy Makeover with Lipoabdominoplasty

In suitable patients, I often consider lipoabdominoplasty, which combines selected liposuction with abdominal skin removal.

This approach can address both excess abdominal skin and certain fatty deposits.

However, it is not appropriate for every patient.

The extent of liposuction must be balanced against tissue blood supply and wound-healing considerations.

When rectus diastasis is present, abdominal wall tightening may also be included.

The final technique depends on the patient’s anatomy.

Can a Mommy Makeover Remove Stretch Marks?

A tummy tuck may remove stretch marks located within the abdominal skin that is excised.

However, stretch marks above the removed area generally remain.

Breast surgery may also remove some skin containing stretch marks, depending on the technique.

A mommy makeover does not eliminate all stretch marks.

Patients should not expect surgery to restore the skin to its exact pre-pregnancy condition.

Can a Mommy Makeover Correct Cellulite?

No.

Mommy makeover surgery is not a reliable treatment for cellulite.

Although liposuction and skin removal may change body contours, they do not consistently correct the underlying structures responsible for cellulite.

I explain this distinction before surgery.

Labiaplasty as Part of a Mommy Makeover

Some women experience changes in the external genital tissues after childbirth or have longstanding concerns about labial anatomy.

Labiaplasty may be considered for selected patients who experience persistent discomfort or have specific aesthetic concerns.

However, it is a separate procedure requiring its own examination, consent and discussion of risks.

It is not a routine component of mommy makeover surgery.

The decision to combine it with other procedures must consider operative duration, wound care and recovery requirements.

Can All Mommy Makeover Procedures Be Performed in One Operation?

Sometimes, but not always.

A patient may request tummy tuck, breast surgery, liposuction and additional procedures during one anaesthetic.

Combining operations can reduce the number of separate recovery periods.

However, it can also increase:

  • Operative duration
  • Blood loss
  • Fluid requirements
  • Wound-healing demands
  • Difficulty with mobility
  • Thromboembolic risk
  • Overall recovery burden

For this reason, I do not automatically recommend performing every requested procedure together.

In selected patients, I prefer dividing extensive mommy makeover surgery into two or three stages.

This approach allows recovery between operations and can provide a more appropriate safety profile.

How Do I Decide Which Procedures Can Be Combined?

I consider several factors:

  • General health
  • Body mass index and weight stability
  • Smoking history
  • Anaesthetic assessment
  • Expected surgical duration
  • Amount of tissue removal
  • Need for abdominal wall repair
  • Extent of liposuction
  • Recovery requirements
  • Blood-clot risk
  • Availability of postoperative support

The decision is made according to the patient’s overall risk profile.

A combination that is appropriate for one woman may not be suitable for another.

Which Procedure Should Come First?

There is no universal sequence.

For example, a patient with significant abdominal skin excess and rectus diastasis may benefit from addressing the abdomen first.

Another patient may be primarily concerned about breast descent.

If extensive procedures are required, I discuss which operation should be prioritised and how recovery from one stage may affect the next.

The sequence should be based on medical considerations and the patient’s needs.

Mommy Makeover After a Caesarean Section

Women who have undergone a Caesarean section may develop lower abdominal skin folds or contour changes around the scar.

A tummy tuck may improve selected problems.

However, the abdomen must be allowed to recover adequately after childbirth.

I assess the previous scar, abdominal wall and surrounding tissues before recommending surgery.

A Caesarean section does not automatically mean that abdominoplasty is necessary.

Can I Have a Mommy Makeover If I Plan Another Pregnancy?

Future pregnancy is possible after many mommy makeover procedures.

However, pregnancy may stretch the abdominal skin and tissues again.

It can also change breast volume and shape.

For this reason, patients who are planning another pregnancy may benefit from postponing certain operations.

I discuss future pregnancy plans during consultation.

Can I Breastfeed After Breast Surgery?

The effect on breastfeeding depends on the procedure and technique.

Many women can breastfeed after breast augmentation, particularly when the operation preserves important glandular structures.

However, breastfeeding ability cannot be guaranteed.

Breast reduction and certain breast lift techniques may have a greater effect on milk production, depending on the amount of tissue removed and preservation of the nipple’s glandular connections.

Patients who wish to breastfeed in the future should discuss this before surgery.

How Long After Breastfeeding Should I Wait?

Breast size and tissue characteristics can continue to change after breastfeeding stops.

I generally recommend waiting until the breasts have stabilised before planning surgery.

The appropriate interval varies.

Operating while the breasts are still changing can make the result less predictable.

Is Mommy Makeover a Weight-Loss Procedure?

No.

Mommy makeover surgery is intended to address selected changes in skin, breast shape and body contour.

It is not a substitute for weight reduction.

Patients with substantial excess body weight may benefit from weight management before surgery.

A relatively stable weight helps improve surgical planning and the durability of the result.

How Is Mommy Makeover Surgery Performed?

The surgical sequence depends on the procedures selected.

For example, a combined operation may involve abdominal surgery and breast reshaping.

In other cases, liposuction may be added.

Each procedure has its own technical requirements.

I plan the operation according to:

  • Patient anatomy
  • Surgical priorities
  • Expected duration
  • Positioning
  • Tissue circulation
  • Anaesthetic considerations
  • Postoperative recovery

There is no single standard mommy makeover technique.

Anaesthesia and Hospital

I perform major mommy makeover procedures under general anaesthesia in fully equipped hospitals in Antalya, Turkey.

Before surgery, I review:

  • General health
  • Previous pregnancies
  • Previous Caesarean sections
  • Medical history
  • Current medication
  • Smoking and nicotine use
  • Weight stability
  • Relevant blood tests
  • Blood-clot risk
  • The planned combination of procedures

Patient safety determines whether operations can be combined or should be performed separately.

Recovery After Mommy Makeover Surgery

Recovery depends on the procedures performed.

A tummy tuck combined with breast surgery has different recovery requirements from breast surgery alone.

Patients may experience:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Tightness
  • Temporary numbness
  • Discomfort
  • Reduced mobility
  • Fatigue
  • Changes in sensation

When abdominal wall tightening is performed, certain movements may initially feel uncomfortable.

I provide individual instructions regarding wound care, walking, compression garments, lifting and physical activity.

Recovery When You Have Young Children

This is one of the most important practical considerations after mommy makeover surgery.

Many women underestimate how often they lift children during daily activities.

After abdominal or breast surgery, lifting a baby or young child may place excessive strain on healing tissues.

Patients should arrange reliable help with:

  • Childcare
  • Lifting children
  • Household tasks
  • Shopping
  • Transport
  • Daily activities

The period of assistance depends on the procedures performed.

I recommend arranging this support before surgery rather than after returning home.

When Can I Lift My Child Again?

The answer depends on the operation.

After a tummy tuck, particularly when abdominal wall repair is performed, heavy lifting is usually restricted for several weeks.

Breast surgery may also require temporary lifting restrictions.

Patients should not resume lifting simply because discomfort has decreased.

I provide guidance according to wound healing and the procedures performed.

When Can I Return to Work?

Return to work depends on the operation and the physical demands of the patient’s occupation.

Some patients with desk-based jobs may return within approximately two to three weeks after selected combined procedures.

However, extensive surgery may require longer.

Patients whose work involves lifting or physical activity may need additional recovery time.

When Can I Exercise After Mommy Makeover?

Gentle walking is encouraged during early recovery when medically appropriate.

However, strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided until healing has progressed sufficiently.

Abdominal training requires particular caution after rectus diastasis repair.

The timetable depends on the combination of procedures.

I provide individual instructions rather than recommending the same exercise schedule for every patient.

Will I Need Compression Garments?

Compression garments may be recommended after abdominal surgery or liposuction.

A supportive surgical bra may also be required after breast procedures.

The type and duration depend on the operation.

Garments should provide appropriate support without excessive pressure.

When Will I See the Final Result?

The initial contour changes are visible relatively early.

However, swelling and tissue firmness affect the early appearance.

Over the following months:

  • Swelling decreases
  • Abdominal tissues soften
  • Breast shape settles
  • Scars begin to mature
  • Body contours become more established

The final result develops gradually.

Scar maturation commonly continues for 12–18 months or longer.

How Long Do Mommy Makeover Results Last?

Results can be long-lasting, but the body continues to change.

Factors that may affect the result include:

  • Future pregnancy
  • Significant weight changes
  • Ageing
  • Skin elasticity
  • Breast implant-related changes
  • Individual healing

Maintaining a relatively stable weight can help preserve the improvement.

Breast implants are not lifetime devices and may require future monitoring or surgery.

Scars After Mommy Makeover Surgery

The scar pattern depends on the procedures performed.

A tummy tuck usually leaves a lower abdominal scar and a scar around the umbilicus.

Breast lift or reduction surgery may involve scars around the areola, vertically down the breast and sometimes along the inframammary fold.

Liposuction usually involves smaller access incisions.

These scars are permanent.

I discuss their expected position and extent before surgery.

Risks and Limitations of Mommy Makeover Surgery

Mommy makeover procedures carry recognised surgical risks.

Potential complications include:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Haematoma
  • Seroma
  • Delayed wound healing
  • Wound separation
  • Skin or fat necrosis
  • Unfavourable scarring
  • Changes in skin or nipple sensation
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Abdominal contour irregularities
  • Implant-related complications when implants are used
  • Need for revision surgery
  • Anaesthetic complications
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Pulmonary embolism

Combining procedures may increase certain risks.

The individual risk profile depends on general health, operative duration and the procedures performed.

I discuss these considerations before surgery.

Mommy Makeover in Turkey for International Patients

Travelling to Antalya for Post-Pregnancy Surgery

International patients can begin with a preliminary assessment before travelling to Turkey.

My team may request:

  • Medical history
  • Current medication
  • Height and weight
  • Previous pregnancies
  • Previous Caesarean sections
  • Breastfeeding history
  • Future pregnancy plans
  • Smoking history
  • Relevant medical conditions
  • Photographs of the areas of concern

This information helps with preliminary planning.

However, photographs cannot replace physical examination.

The final surgical plan is confirmed after I assess the patient personally in Antalya.

How Long Should I Stay in Antalya?

The appropriate stay depends on the combination of procedures.

For some limited operations, approximately 7–10 days may allow early postoperative assessment.

However, extensive combined surgery, particularly procedures involving abdominoplasty and abdominal wall repair, may require a longer stay.

I do not recommend arranging travel solely around the shortest available medical-tourism package.

The timing of the return flight depends on:

  • Wound healing
  • Mobility
  • General recovery
  • Blood-clot risk
  • Postoperative assessment
  • Need for additional care

Patients should return home only after appropriate medical evaluation.

Why Choose Dr Gökhan Özerdem for Mommy Makeover Surgery?

Mommy makeover surgery requires careful assessment of several anatomical areas.

The surgeon must decide:

  • Whether a tummy tuck is necessary
  • Whether rectus diastasis should be repaired
  • Whether breast lift, augmentation or reduction is appropriate
  • Whether liposuction will improve the result
  • Whether additional procedures are justified
  • Which operations can be combined safely
  • Whether staged surgery would be more appropriate
  • How recovery will affect daily responsibilities

With more than 25 years of surgical experience, I assess these factors before recommending surgery.

I do not consider mommy makeover surgery to be a standard package.

The appropriate result comes from selecting the right procedures, not from performing the greatest number of operations during one anaesthetic.

Considering a Mommy Makeover in Antalya, Turkey?

If you are considering travelling to Turkey for mommy makeover surgery, the most important question is not:

“How many procedures can I have at once?”

The more useful questions are:

Which changes actually require surgery? Which procedures will provide an appropriate improvement? Can they be combined safely? And what recovery support will I need when I return home?

An initial assessment can help clarify the options before you arrange your journey.
